10. Odia

32 million people speak this language so this makes it the no. 10 on our list. This Indo Aryan Eastern language is spoken mainly in Odisha. Some of the other states which speak the language are West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Chattishgarh, and Jharkhand. The language has a long history and is the 6th classical language in India.

9. Malayalam

The next language which features in the list is Malayalam, the language of hill region. The root of the language is Dravidian civilization. Over 33 million people speak the language in states like Kerala, Puducherry, and Lakshadweep. This beautiful language has 52 letters which is the highest in any of the languages in India.

8. Gujarati

Over 46 million people speak the language in India which is the 8th most spoken language in the country. This language is the first language of famous personalities like Mahatma Gandhi and Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The language is spoken in the state of Gujarat and union territories like Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli. The language is the 26th most spoken language in the world. 52 million people speak this language who are spread all across the country which makes it the 7th most spoken language of India. The name Urdu came from Turkic word Ordu. This language is used mostly in the South Indian states like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
