TRAVELLERS INN EVICTIONS RESCINDED

Evictions issued to residents of the old Travellers Inn on Douglas Street have been rescinded — that, according to a director of the Vancouver-based real estate investment company that owns the building.

Yesterday residents, mostly low income and hard-to-home tenants, were reeling from news that they needed to be out by January 1st.

This morning Fabrizio Coltellaro told CFAX news the last thing he wants is to put people on the stree, and he has instructed the management company to cancel the eviction notices.

Coltellaro says the notices were only sent out as he was under the impression his company, which took over the Travellers Inn  in March, would face hefty fines as it was not zoned for longterm tenants.

Coltellaro told us he has since clarified with Victoria City Hall that they are willing to work with him to change the zoning while allowing tenants to stay.
